Course Description:

The 8 hour Site Safety Coordinator Course is a shortened version of the 40 hour Site Safety Manager course for licensed architects and engineers, and workers with experience in construction supervision or safety professionals. It is a comprehensive review of Chapter 33 and the Rules of the City of New York that pertain to public protection. This course provides students with safe job practices in New York City.

 

They will be introduced to the hazards of working in the New York City construction environment and the specific methods and work practices that are necessary on an urban construction site. This course is one of the requirements all applicants must successfully complete in order to apply for Site Safety Coordinator or to register or renew for a Construction Superintendent license with the New York City Department of Buildings. Students will receive a certificate of completion from Safety Dynamics.

Audience:

Registered Architects, Licensed Engineers, and Applicants with 5 years of construction supervision/safety experience including 3 years supervising major buildings for the NYC DOB Site Safety Coordinator License and Construction Superintendent Registration – initial and renewing applications. 

Please refer to NYC DOB's checklist to ensure that you have all of the appropriate documentation to apply for a license. Please also note that we only provide the certificate you need to submit to DOB and NOT the actual license. After completing the course, DOB are the ones that handle your registration and application process.

Learning Outcomes:

​

Upon completion of this course, the students shall be able to:

​

1. Demonstrate knowledge between a Site Safety Manager and Site Safety Coordinators and their responsibilities

2. Describe when a Superintendent is needed and what their responsibilities are.

3. Describe what a Concrete Safety Manager and Fire Safety Manager is and what their responsibilities are.

4. Identify the major safety factors related to construction site work and what controls, systems, and PPE to utilize to provide not only the public, but employees as well from injuries and/or fatalities.

5. Explain and recognize the focus four hazards and demonstrate how to correct with controls and other means of protection.

6. Demonstrate knowledge of the rules of New York City related to construction and recall rules related to fire safety on a construction site.

7. Describe the NYC DOB chapter 33 Safeguards during construction and demolition. 

8. Show understanding of NYC DOI rules and permits and the general administrative rules as related to a construction site.

9. Explain permits required and the expiration for each.

10. Recognize when to notify BOD and have knowledge of which plans are to be on site during construction.

11. Demonstrate site job safety and how to maintain safety and recall job site emergency situations and preparedness in unsafe building, NYC/DOI Building Integrity Training contact information sheet, Safety Protocol for concrete, Standpipe inspection, crane and derricks, supported/suspended scaffold and sheds.

 

Methods of Instruction:

A combination of lectures, PowerPoint presentations, open discussions, and testing will be used throughout the course.

Prerequisites:

Student must be able to communicate with the instructor in the language the course is held in. Valid photo ID is required. In order to be eligible to apply for NYC DOB Site Safety Coordinator license, student must be a registered architect, licensed engineer, OR have 5 years of construction supervision/safety experience, including 3 years supervising major buildings.

Successful Completion:

​

In order to receive a certificate/card for the course, students must:

​

• Be able to clearly communicate with the instructor and complete all paperwork in the language the course is delivered. No personal interpreters permitted. 

• Complete all required paperwork: registration, evaluation, attendance, etc.

• Attend all required hours of the course. Any make up sessions must be completed within six months from the course start date.

• Complete tests with a passing grade of 70%.

Attendance Policy: 

Students are required to complete 100% of the course and actively participate in all learning activities. Make-up time is permitted only at the discretion of the school's management.

Unsuccessful Course Completion

Students receiving a failing grade on their final exam must take and repay for the course at a later date and time, at the same or then existing current higher tuition price.
